Vista only boots in safe mode black screen




















Safe mode will give me a cursor and a screen saver after awhile. I really don't want to reload everything over again. Any thoughts? Also how do I do a backup if I can't boot into the system? I have a Dell Dimension Intel dual-core 2. A month after using the sytem Outlook reported 'Unbale to display the folder' when attempting to view the calendar. After a reboot chkdsk ran automatically, finding numerous errors and deleting orphans.

After that operation completed I am now unable to boot into Windows Vista Home Edition at all, even safe mode. Every time the BIOS loads, the 'Microsoft Corporation' screen with the green progress bar is displayed and following that a black screen with only the mouse pointer is displayed. I have tried all of the following: 1 Safe modes all 2 Last Known Good Configuration 3 System restore to before the incident 4 Vista System System Repair including Startup Repair which reports no problems 5 Boot logging - Every time the last driver to load is the crcdisk.

I can still expore the drive from the command prompt after booting using the Vista DVD and the data is all still there. Ideally I would like to get Vista running again , back up all the data, reinstall Windows XP and forget about the troublesome Vista for another year.

Many other people seem to have similar problems, especially with laptops but I have spent many hours on this already and don't seem any closer to the answer.

Although I havent had much of a problem since I unchecked that windows event log. It has only done the black screen once in the last 2 hours. So, that didnt completely fix the problem but it did seem to help. Tyvm for all of the advice, I guess I'll let you know if I ever get it fixed.

I'm noticing a trend with the laptops that have W7 on them. I've had the same issue several times with my own laptop. Seems to me that it's a sleep mode issue. Something is buggy with power management in W7, as I've had this happen about three times already. I've also had issues adjusting screen brightness. See if the fix I mentioned doesn't do the trick.
