Cannot copy files across network

I can copy large files from the Win 7 machine to the Win 10 machine. I cannot copy large files from the Win 10 machine to the Win 7 machine. I can copy individual small files at will from the Win 10 machine to the Win 7 machine.

If I try to copy a folder with a lot of small files, it will fail. If I try to copy a large file, it might start some of the copy or it will fail just after calculating.

I have disabled all firewalls. I have tried traditional folder shares with guest, everyone, explicit users with passwords, home group shares, disabling the auto negotiation, disabling windows search on the Win7 box.

It's not a physical network problem. In fact, I transfered a GB backup file from the machine to a network share just before installing Win Win10 machine fully updated including patch from this past week that supposedly resolved the folder renaming bug. I lose all connectivity to the Win 7 box when I execute the commands above. The win7 box shows up in WE but I cannot browse at all. I can only ping the IP. Thanks for your feedback.

Microsoft made changes to networking and removed Homegroup from Windows and that caused some problems. To get you PC's to visible under File Explorer network section then most important part is to start some required services. When I go to my network on one PC I cannot see files and folders on the other PCs where drives are being shared to the network.

If you open File Explorer, go to Network , and see an error message "Network discovery is turned off…. To turn it on, select the Network discovery is turned off banner, then select Turn on network discovery and file sharing.

To troubleshoot problems with sharing files or folders, follow the steps below on all computers from which you're trying to share. Update Windows Open Windows Update. Make sure the computers are on the same network. For example, if your computers connect to the internet through a wireless router, make sure they all connect through the same wireless router. If you're on a Wi-Fi network, set it to Private. To find out how, read Make a Wi-Fi network public or private in Windows Under Private , select Turn on Network discovery and Turn on file and printer sharing.

Under All Networks , select Turn off password protected sharing. In the Run dialog box, type services. Right-click each of the following services, select Properties , if they're not running, select Start , and next to Startup type , select Automatic :. Share things with nearby devices in Windows Share files in File Explorer. Make a Wi-Fi network public or private in Windows Fix network connection issues in Windows.
