The only slight turn-off for returning fans outside of anyone that just wants more of what they had with the first game is the fact that all the interface, sound, and visuals are virtually unchanged from the first game.

This links the two games together for sure, but it also doesn't offer up too much new content apart from the game's new design. It's still great to see enemies explode into retro shrapnel, the amount of on-screen particles has been upped significantly, but when it comes to look and feel, Swarm is virtually identical to the original game. As a nice addition though, leaderboard rankings are now included via OpenFeint, and its supported with every level.

In fact, some mission are never-ending challenges as well, so there's a huge emphasis on jumping in, beating a level, and then going back and mastering it so you can top the leaderboards, and that's something fans of the original were asking for since launch. If you want a more open, trackless take on the classic formula, Swarm is a fresh design within the tried and true geoDefense template.
